Subject: Happy New Year!
I hope this message finds each and every JRMS student happy and healthy and fully engaged in the activities of the season. The Monadnock Region offers plenty of winter recreation for families to participate and find a renewed sense of energy as the temperature dips below freezing. As my mother always said to me, “There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.” As the conditions become more arctic, I would strongly encourage each student to be prepared with a winter coat, mittens or gloves, and a winter hat. The time prior to the school bell ringing (standing at the bus stop or walking to school), and during the lunch recess can get quite chilly. It is our expectation that when the mercury is above 20 degrees, students be permitted and expected to participate in recess outdoors; and one foolproof way to ensure safety and comfort is to encourage the wearing of appropriate attire.
As I get settled into the seventh month at the helm of the Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School, I could not be more impressed with the daily diligence of the professional staff, the food service employees, the instructional associates, the office staff, and the maintenance and custodial team members. There is not a day that goes by when we don’t stand up for the rights and best interest of a child. The core components of integrity, respect, and responsibility are embedded into the actions of the adults that surround your child.
Here are some points of interest that should be brought to your attention at this point during the school year:
- A Student Involvement Leadership Team is in the initial stages of being formed and that will be an opportunity for students to have input on issues such as dress code, assemblies, naming the new computer lab, and other issues that arise for students.
- The IR2 November/ December Focus Group implemented a rewards system that focused on hallway and transition behavior as students earned stamps in order to participate in the culminating activity period that took place on Dec. 22. The IR2 January/ February Focus Group will be reinforcing classroom behavior in hopes to reduce the number of discipline referrals during the month of February. Students will earn stars and then will post them on their grade level star located in the cafeteria. The Roll- Out Assembly “You Are A Shining Star” will take place on Wednesday, January 20,th at 1:00 pm. You are more than welcome to attend.
- There will be an 8th Grade Fun Night at Franklin Pierce University on January 14th and a 7th Grade Fun Night at Franklin Pierce on January 22nd.
- The second marking period concludes on January 26th with the expectation that Report Cards be distributed on Monday, February 1st.
- The Second Quarter Pride Awards will take place during the afternoon of February 5th in the Pratt.
- School Spirit Week is planned for the week of March 15- 19 with a school talent show to be held during the afternoon of March 19th.
- During the past quarter, teachers have collaborated to create individual plans for each and every student to help attain one year of growth in reading and in math based on the Fall 2009 NWEA MAP test results. These individual plans will be shared and co-owned with students with the goal being that all students reach their targeted growth as demonstrated on the Spring 2010 NWEA MAP testing.
I would like to invite all of you to drop me an email letting me know your thoughts and reflections so that I may have input in the future planning of JRMS. I ask that you email with needs that need to be met, with ideas that you have always wanted to share, kudos to faculty and staff that may go unnoticed, and/ or other concerns that may be on your mind.
